Azamara Alaska Cruises

Azamara's boutique mid-size cruise ships sail to more than 200 ports around the world. In 2019, Azamara - which is part of the Azamara family - will add 11 destinations in Alaska alone. These new itineraries will be the first-ever Azamara sailings to Alaska since the line launched in 2007. Azamara ships carry no more than 700 guests, meaning guests can get closer to both city centers and remote destinations than you could on larger ships, and experience intimate shore excursions that offer a richer look at each port.

Azamara Alaska Cruises Overview

Azamara Cruises is known for its destination-immersive voyages, and fans of the line will be happy to know Alaska has been added to their line-up of destinations. Beginning in 2019, Azamara will offer several different 8- to 10-day voyages through America's 49th state. The line will visit ports like Haines, Juneau, Icy Strait Point, and Skagway, as well as Canadian destinations like Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. These voyages will sail between May and September, and will feature optional pre- and post-voyage land programs for those looking for more time in the Pacific Northwest.

Azamara Cruise Ships in Alaska

Sail to Alaska aboard the Azamara Quest. One of three Azamara ships, the Quest sails with 690 passengers, making it comfortably small, while still boasting all the amenities you could want. Gratuities, select alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, self-service laundry, and shuttle service to and from port communities are included in your cruise fare, as is an AzAmazing Evenings event. Once onboard, you can spend time in spacious staterooms or one of several bars, restaurants, lounges, or outdoor spaces.

Accommodations on Azamara Alaska Cruises

On the Azamara Quest, you'll always be close to the sea. More than 90 percent of staterooms offer ocean views, and nearly 70 percent have private verandas. Azamara recently invested millions of dollars in renovating its three ships, and the result is staterooms and suites that are even more comfortable and luxurious than before. Whether you stay in a Club Interior Stateroom, Club Veranda Stateroom, or Club Ocean Suite, you'll enjoy plush European bedding, flat-screen TVs, updated deck furniture, and wireless internet access in all staterooms, as well as cotton robes and slippers, French bath products, and 24-hour room service. Other stateroom amenities include a welcome fruit basket at embarkation, fresh-cut flowers, complimentary shoe-shine service, and turndown treats.

Those staying in suites can enjoy even more space and dedicated English butler service, plus private afternoon tea service, complimentary seating in specialty restaurants, and 235 minutes of complimentary Internet service. There are four types of suites available to stay in: Club Continent Suites, Club Spa Suites, Club Ocean Suites, and the Club World Owner's Suite.

Shore Excursions on Azamara Alaska Cruises

As with all Azamara cruises, Alaskan voyages will feature specially curated "Cruise Global, Connect Local" shore excursions. These excursions are limited to just 20 to 25 guests per tour, so you won't get lost amongst a huge group. Instead, you'll have to opportunity to get up close and personal to Alaska as the natives know it - go crabbing with local fisherman, learn about Alaskan culture at an authentic Tlingit Village, or partake in a strenuous bike ride along the Klondike Highway. Some of the shore excursions already announced include the following:

  • Dog Sledding and Glacier Flightseeing by Helicopter - Skagway, Alaska
  • Bering Sea Crab Fisherman's Tour - Ketchikan, Alaska
  • A Taste of Haines - Haines, Alaska
  • Mendenhall Glacier and Salmon Hatchery Experience - Juneau, Alaska

In addition to shore excursions, Azamara will offer several land and sea experiences if you'd like to extend your stay in Alaska. Two- to six-day pre- and post-voyage land programs will be available. On these programs, you can visit Native Villages and attend traditional community gatherings, spend an afternoon with a local dog handler learning about the Iditarod Dogsled Race, or journey to Denali to see the wilderness of Denali National Park. Cruisetours include lodging, motor coach or express train transportation, and the expert guidance of tour directors.

Dining & Drinks on Azamara Alaska Cruises

On an Azamara cruise to Alaska, there are several dining options to choose from each night. You can eat in the main dining room, Discoveries Restaurant, which features dishes inspired by the regions you'll visit - in Alaska, that might mean fresh fish and berries alongside traditional favorites like filet mignon. Dine at a table for two or as part of a larger groups of fellow guests. Azamara also offers casual dining options, like The Patio and Swirl & Top, where you can get self-serve frozen yogurt, and Windows Cafe, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For an additional charge (unless you are a suite guest, in which case specialty dining is included), you can dine at Aqualina, an Italian-inspired restaurant, or Prime C, a specialty steakhouse.

Spirits, international beers and wines are included for all guests, as are bottled water, soft drinks, specialty coffees and teas. For Suite guests, in-suite afternoon tea service is included too. At The Wine Cellar, guests can sample vintage wines from all over the word, and chat with knowledgeable sommeliers about the best wines onboard.

Activities on Azamara Alaska Cruises

Despite being smaller ships, Azamara's vessels have all the activities and entertainment you'd expect of a larger line. The Sanctum Spa is a favorite for many cruisers, with a staff of aestheticians and therapists ready to treat you to facial glow services, deep-tissue massages, and seaweed wraps. Other services include teeth whitening, hair styling, manicures and pedicures. You can also take part in customized personal training sessions and group exercise classes, or work out alone in the fitness center.

While onboard, you can shop for small gifts or new clothes in the shops, or head to the lounge for an enrichment program. Azamara brings guest lecturers onboard to discuss port-of-call-related history, culture, and geography. Wine tastings, culinary demonstrations, and Land Discoveries seminars are hosted frequently too.

There are plenty of entertainment options to keep you busy throughout the evenings at sea, including piano bars, live music, cabaret singers, and themed parties. Both ships have a casino where you can play blackjack, roulette, slots, or pokers. Next door, there's a Spirits bar with a full bar and flat-screen TV where you can keep up with sporting events.

Children's Programs on Azamara Alaska Cruises

While Azamara Cruises does not offer any specific children's programming onboard, children are allowed to sail with parents on Azamara cruises. High chairs, cribs, and play yards are available for use onboard Azamara ships, and kid-friendly foods like hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken fingers, and pizza are served in most restaurants. Baby supplies like diapers, baby food, formula and sippy cups are not stocked onboard, so if you are traveling with a young child you'll want to bring these yourself.

Accessibility on Azamara Alaska Cruises

Azamara Cruises welcomes guests with disabilities aboard its ships and seeks to make the cruising experience as comfortable and carefree as possible. Complimentary wheelchairs are provided when getting on and off the ship, and personal wheelchairs or scooters are allowed for use onboard. Both Azamara ships have wheelchair-accessible staterooms designed to accommodate guests with mobility limitations. These rooms range from 227 to 324 square feet, with a five-foot turning radius in sleeping areas, the bathroom, and sitting areas. Restrooms have ramped thresholds, grab bars, a lowered sink, and roll-in showers with a fold-down shower bench and hand-held showerhead. Within the rooms there are lowered vanities, a lowered closet rod, and accessible balconies.

Service animals are allowed onboard, and Braille is incorporated throughout staterooms, dining areas and public spaces for those with visual impairments. Contact a Cruise Specialist to ensure any special needs are addressed prior to embarkation.
